Framed engraving of "Address to the Deil" by S. Bull after JM Wright

Robert Burns had a history of interest in the spirit world and many of his works have the theme of the supernatural, which he uses to create a satirical view of certain current events.

This engraving represents a scene from Burns'poem' Address to the devil' as drawn by the artist S. Bull who had used the earlier image by JM Wright as his inspiration.

Robert Burns started writing poetry as a young man and received much of his early influence from Betty Davidson a cousin of his mother who visited frequently and was a great storyteller of ghost stories and the like. This also can be seen in his famous tale of Tam o' Shanter.
