Introduction:
The Poet Robert Burns was born in Alloway in a small two roomed cottage built by his father on a 7 acre smallholding acquired from the local landowner around 1756. His father worked as a gardener on the Doonholm estate before setting out as a smallholder/farmer.

Description:
This engraving depicts a scene within the kitchen of the cottage in which the poet Robert Burns was born in 1759. The bed alcove is clearly seen on the right of the picture and his father William Burns is seated in front of the stove.
